Comprehensive residential remodeling

Remodeling that starts by opening the room up

Kitchens, bathrooms, basements, porches and living rooms in Leominster homes, taken down to the framing and rebuilt with the owner on site.

Chapter 01

What turns up when the walls come off

Every remodel has a moment when the room stops being the room you knew. The finish comes off, and what sits behind it is whatever the last few owners left. Old plaster hides patched framing, wiring from different decades, and now and then a brick pier that nobody mentioned. The photo on this page is one of JMP's own jobs: a room opened to the studs, a brick pier standing in the middle of it, extension cords and a saw lying on the subfloor.

That is the stage where a remodel is really planned, because it is the first time anyone sees the structure. Jay would rather show you what is behind the wall than guess at it from the doorway. Decisions about what stays, what gets rebuilt and what needs reframing are easier to make with the framing in front of both of you, and the plan that comes out of it is built on what is actually there.

Kitchens, bathrooms, basements and the rest

JMP remodels kitchens, bathrooms, basements, porches and living rooms, and does the tiling as well. A kitchen is mostly a question of order: demolition first, then any framing changes, then the rough work behind the walls, then surfaces, then cabinets and finish. Done out of sequence, someone ends up cutting into something that was already finished, and the homeowner pays for that in dust and rework.

Bathrooms and basements are the rooms where moisture decides everything, so the work behind the finish matters more than the finish itself. Tile is only as good as what it is set on. Porches and living rooms are where carpentry shows, in trim, windowsills and built pieces. JMP also does finish carpentry, vanities and cabinets, so those details can be part of the same job instead of a second contractor's problem.

Chapter 03

Living through a remodel

Our owner comes to every job site, and that habit shapes the whole job. Jay would rather catch a problem in the room than hear of it later on the phone. A remodel puts a crew inside your house for a stretch, and the person responsible being there each day is what keeps the work and the household from drifting apart.

It shows when the crew packs up, too. Ramona Barron, reviewing JMP on Google, wrote: "Everything was completed skillfully, with care, and swept clean at the end." Leaving a clean worksite is not glamorous, but anyone who has lived through a remodel knows what it is worth.
