Siding in Leominster: vinyl, cedarwood, and repairs after storm or fire

New siding and siding repairs, soffits, fascia and gutter work, plus storm damage and fire damage repairs, with CertainTeed siding products.

Chapter 01

How to tell your siding is failing

Siding is the skin that keeps weather off the framing, so when it fails the cost lands underneath it. Look for vinyl panels that have cracked, buckled or pulled loose, cedar boards that are soft, dark or splitting along their lower edges, and soffit or fascia that has sagged or stained. Then walk the house in the rain and watch the gutters: an overflowing gutter soaks the wall below it, season after season.

Siding repairs sit on JMP Construction's list right beside full siding jobs, so a failing wall does not have to mean a whole house of new panels. The free estimate is where that gets sorted out: how far the damage runs, and whether water has reached the sheathing behind the siding, because that has to be dealt with before anything new goes on. The team is licensed and insured, and Jay's Construction Supervisor License is #86440.

Vinyl, cedarwood and the trim that holds them in

Vinyl siding is the low-maintenance choice: it needs no paint, and it goes up as interlocking panels that are meant to move a little with the temperature. Nailed on too tight, vinyl buckles in the first hot week. Fastened loosely but with the laps left open in the wrong places, it lets wind-driven rain behind the panel. The care taken at each nail matters more than the panel itself.

Cedarwood siding is the traditional look on a Leominster colonial, and it asks for more upkeep: a finish that stays sealed, and attention wherever boards meet trim or corners. JMP installs both vinyl and cedarwood, and works with CertainTeed siding products, so the material can follow the house and the owner's appetite for maintenance.

Soffits, fascia and gutter work belong in the same conversation. The fascia carries the gutter, the soffit closes the underside of the eave, and a failed run of either sends water straight behind the siding it was meant to protect. JMP does all three, so the wall and the roofline get fixed together instead of in separate visits.

Chapter 03

After a storm or a fire

JMP does storm damage repairs and fire damage repairs on siding. After wind has torn panels loose or a falling limb has split cedar boards, the first priority is a wall that keeps rain out of the framing. From there the repair is matched to what was actually lost, whether that is a handful of panels or a whole elevation of the house.

Fire damage is different. Heat warps vinyl well beyond the visible burn, and smoke and the water used to fight the fire reach places the flames never touched, so the extent of the damage is not always the extent of the char. A good repair starts from the point where the material is sound again, and goes back from there.
